INSIDER Autumn 2019 | Page 3

Insider Events The arts and culture committees injected extra personality into the event by setting up the henna, tattoo and face paint stalls. When asked why they were participat- ing at Knollfest they said it was “just for fun and creativity” which is a great rea- son for students to give up there free time and very heart- warming to hear. Many of the art stu- dents there also seemed to unani- mously agree that they enjoyed helping at Knollfest because it’s “rad” and “cool”. However, these weren’t the only committees at Knollfest. There was also a Russ market set up by the India expedition students, Charlie helping to run the stall stated that they were raising money for, quite clearly, “the Russ foundation” because they’re “going on a trip to India in No- vember so they are fundraising for an orphanage”. The clothes they were selling were all sec- ond hand but in great condition and the cakes seemed to be selling extremely fast. You can still donate to the Russ foundation if you missed the chance to visit the stall at Knollfest. Student opinions were quite similar. Students such as Natalie and Niamh agreed that Knollfest was a “great experience” and Natalie in particular seemed to feel the music was a fun source of “entertainment”. The bouncy castles were in constant use and the hill was covered with stu- dents sitting with their friends just listening to the live bands. Alt- hough Knollfest had Laura, Ava and Kaitlin listening to the music (top). Genevieve and Natalie on the bouncy castle (bottom right). Charlie on Russ foundation market stall (bottom left). “Make it bigger!” - Tia Smith a big attendance there was some things stu- dents thought should be improved. The arts committee thought what needed improv- ing, in contrast to previ- ous opinion was “the music”. Since the ma- jority of Knollfest fea- tured rock music, the committee would have appreciated some “different genres” may- be “something chill”. First year student, Tia Smith, thought that we should have “made eve- rything bigger” and had “more food”. Due to the amount of space there was a Knollfest I think its is likely that the reason more stu- dents didn’t attended was because Knollfest was at full capacity .
