NEWS GOUPIE SALTED STICKY TOFFEE WINS SILVER AT FOOD TALK AWARDS Artisan confectionery brand Goupie has won a silver award for their newest flavour, Salted Sticky Toffee, in the Free- From category at the Food Talk Awards. “The reaction to our Goupie Mini launch this year, in particular to our brand new Salted Sticky Toffee flavour, has been phenomenal,” comments Grace Simpson, brand manager. “There is no doubt that salted confectionery still has a huge pull on the consumer, and the fact that it’s also gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan friendly is just the icing on the cake.” The Free-From Pioneer Award was looking for ‘a food or drink product from where traditional allergens or ingredients have been removed, but you’d never know it’. “We are delighted to have won Silver in this category,” states co- founder, Janet Simpson. “We have always kept Goupie all about the taste, and so acknowledgment of this in a free-from category is really important to us.” www.goupie.co.uk THE SPORTSMAN WINS FOR A SECOND YEAR AT AT THE ESTRELLA DAMM NATIONAL RESTAURANT AWARDS, MONDAY 12th JUNE 2017 Kent pub The Sportsman has been named National Restaurant of the Year at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards for the second year running, beating all manner of restaurants nationwide. Any type of restaurant from around the British Isles, serving any style of cuisine is eligible for inclusion in the list. The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards are the results of the votes of 180 industry experts, spread across all regions of the UK. The academy of voters is made up of chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and critics as well as other food experts and gastronomes. Each voter casts seven votes, based on their best restaurant experiences over the previous 12 months. This year’s awards celebrated the UK’s incredibly varied dining scene; from independent, neighbourhood joints, to upmarket fast food, to old school glamour. It also showcased the breadth of diverse gastronomy across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. 163
