RICHARD PHILLIPS’ RESTAURANTS
RICHARD PHILLIPS IS A BUSY CHEF. NOT CONTENT WITH JUST ONE GREAT RESTAURANT IN KENT, HE ' S PLAYED A PART IN PLENTY OF OTHER FOOD VENTURES, INCLUDING...
Pearson’ s Arms
Pearson’ s Arms offers exceptional food in a relaxed, pub atmosphere – locals and visitors alike are welcome here, and whether you want to come in for a quick snack or a full three-course feast, there is an option open to you. The emphasis at Pearson’ s Arms is on fresh and local, with seasonal Kentish produce used as much as possible. Dishes made from scratch by head chef, Craig, include Whitstable Bay beer-battered cod, triple-cooked chips, crushed minted peas and tartare sauce; and grilled rack of Charing pork, black pudding hash, salt-baked Jerusalem artichoke, caramelised apple and cider jus.
The restaurant is located upstairs from the bar, so you can enjoy a sophisticated and unhurried meal away from the hustle and bustle of the pub itself. And since Pearson’ s Arms is located so close to the beach at Whitstable, when you’ ve finished your meal you can enjoy a stroll along the shore.

The Windmill
If your passion is good food combined with excellent real ales and interesting wines, then The Windmill is the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal. As much time is spent perfecting the drinks here as goes into the food, which means that when you choose to enter The Windmill, you are choosing not only a special experience, but an elegant and memorable one too. On top of the already superb food( dishes include mussels cooked in Kentish white wine; pan-fried calf’ s liver with sageinfused cabbage, slow-cooked onions, creamed mashed potatoes and Madeira shallots; and pea and leek risotto balls with parsnip puree and baby watercress), there is a new barbecue and smokehouse area too. Open every weekend including bank holidays, you can watch the experts prepare your food while listening to fantastic live music.

Thackeray’ s
Thackeray’ s may be an exceptional place to dine, but it’ s entirely without pretension and is instead somewhere to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and great food – sourced locally wherever possible – in gorgeous surroundings. Thackeray’ s is all about creativity when it comes to the menu, so dishes such as tian of white crab with tomato, avocado, caviar, crème fraîche and balsamic vinaigrette, and head-to-toe of suckling pig( loin, confit belly, hispi cabbage, leg and chorizo ravioli, shoulder‘ spring roll’) with charred sweet corn and spiced puy lentils – are a delicious and welcome surprise.
As for the restaurant itself, the building is over 300 years old and was once the residence of author, William Makepeace Thackeray. It is quirky and charming, and the ideal setting in which to relish the fantastic food served.
