IN 2017 THE ROMNEY, HYTHE & DYMCHURCH RAILWAY WILL BE CELEBRATING ITS 90TH ANNIVERSARY. TO MARK THIS IMPORTANT AND EXCITING MILESTONE THERE WILL BE VARIOUS AND PLENTIFUL EVENTS ALONG THE 13 1 / 2 MILE LINE. START YOUR JOURNEY FROM ANY OF THE FIVE STATIONS TO TRAVEL BEHIND A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE ACROSS THE UNIQUE LANDSCAPE OF THE ROMNEY MARSH. PURCHASE A ROMNEY ROVER TICKET FOR ACCESS TO ALL STATIONS ALL DAY.
The 90th Anniversary Steam & Diesel Gala will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May and will showcase the very best the Railway has to offer. The ever-popular Gala will include a 90-mile challenge and the return of locomotive No. 5 Hercules from intermediate overhaul. Celebrations continue on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July with the 90th Anniversary Birthday Party. This event honours the numerous people who have played a part in the Railway’ s success since it opened to the public in 1927. The Railway will play host to an array of historical content, including events and re-enactments, all led by the Railway’ s dedicated Heritage group.
Hythe, Dymchurch, New Romney and Dungeness are home to quality souvenir / gift shops that stock limited edition 90th anniversary merchandise alongside an array of giftware and children’ s toys.
Feeling peckish? Enjoy a full English breakfast in Hythe’ s Light Railway Café, a hearty lunch in the Heywood Buffet at New Romney and a‘ seaside’ menu in the End of the Line Restaurant in Dungeness.
