ST LAWRENCE COLLEGE IN RAMSGATE HAS BEEN MAKING THE MOST OF ITS LEARNING PARTNERSHIP WITH MARGATE ’ S WORLD-CLASS ART GALLERY , TURNER CONTEMPORARY , ENRICHING THE CURRICULUM FOR BOTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR PUPILS .
As one of the sponsors of the gallery ’ s recent exhibition JMW Turner : Adventures in Colour , the school fully embraced the theme with workshops at the gallery and activities in school , culminating in an exclusive evening event at the gallery .
St Lawrence College families had the opportunity to view both Junior and Senior School pupils ’ artwork and photography alongside a private viewing of the exhibition . Junior School pupils , dressed in their tie-dyed rainbow coloured t-shirts , sang and recited poetry on the theme of ‘ colour ’.
Principal of St Lawrence College , Antony Spencer , said : “ The link we have with the Turner Contemporary gallery is very important to us because we believe in the value of art and creativity in education . Young people who are able to express and understand themselves and others through words , music and art are more likely to succeed in the future workplace , where the speed of change in technology will place an even greater requirement upon creativity , imagination and communication .”
