KENT ARTIST PROFILE

SARAH FISHER

CAPTIVATED BY THE LUSTRE AND NATURAL BEGINNINGS OF FRESHWATER PEARLS AND SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES, SARAH FISHER’ S LONG-HONED CRAFTSMANSHIP IS BUILT UPON STORIES, CONNECTION TO THE LAND AND A TRUE LOVE OF TIMELESS PIECES THAT CAN BE PASSED DOWN GENERATIONS- A VISION THAT IS PERFECTLY REFLECTED IN THE BEAUTIFUL JEWELLERY SHE CREATES TODAY.
Sarah, please tell us about your artistic journey so far. My passion for creating began in a childhood spent learning lacemaking from my grandmother’ s neighbour. I soon discovered, however, that I was more captivated by decorating the wooden bobbins with vibrant beads than the lace itself. This early fascination eventually evolved into a career in jewellery design, where I now specialise in the timeless elegance of freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones.
A 2011 redundancy provided the unexpected catalyst to turn my craft into a professional pursuit. As the business flourished, I reached a significant milestone in 2025 and opened my first boutique in Sandwich. While the shop has allowed my brand to put down permanent roots, I still cherish the energy of major exhibitions. A particular highlight of 2025 was showcasing my collection at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival. From childhood beads to a thriving shop, the joy of all things handmade remains my core inspiration.
You create beautiful pieces using freshwater pearls and precious stones; have you always been drawn to these materials? For me, the freshwater pearl is the ultimate inspiration. Its lustre is truly captivating, but it is the story of its creation that I find most profound. There is a quiet wonder in the way nature takes a small imperfection and, through time and patience, transforms it into something magnificent. I believe jewellery should never compete with the materials from which it is made. This organic alchemyis the heart of my creative process and I strive to keep my designs intentionally simple. By stripping away the unnecessary, I ensure that the natural radiance of the pearl remains. My goal is not to‘ decorate’ the pearl, but to frame its innate beauty, allowing its unique, natural story to take centre stage in every piece I create.
What else inspires your jewellery designs? Does Kent influence your work in any way? My creative spark was lit while rummaging through my grandmother’ s jewellery box, instilling a profound respect for pearls as a bridge between generations. Today, that legacy is deeply shaped by the Kentish landscape. I draw constant inspiration from the rugged coastline and rolling countryside, where the organic textures of the shore mirror the captivating lustre of the stones I select. This connection to nature and history defines my craftsmanship. I am dedicated to ensuring every piece possesses the enduring beauty required to survive the test of time. By focusing on timeless elegance, I aim to create‘ treasures of tomorrow’ that transcend fleeting fashion. My goal is to craft jewellery worthy of being handed down from mother to daughter.
What are you most excited for in 2026? Looking ahead to 2026, I am filled with anticipation for the new horizons this year brings. I am thrilled to return to the RHS circuit alongside several major exhibitions, beginning my season at the historic Penshurst Place over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Within my Sandwich boutique, the vision continues to grow. I am carefully expanding our collection to include curated gifts that mirror my jewellery’ s philosophy. This growth is just the beginning. My ambition is to put down further roots with a second location in the future, sharing my passion for timeless design with an even wider community. As the business evolves, my mission remains unchanged: to bring enduring elegance and the quiet joy of the handmade to more homes across the beautiful county of Kent.
