4. COMPANION PLANTING FOR SUCCESS
Some plants grow better together— basil improves tomato growth, while chives deter aphids from leafy greens. Marigolds planted alongside herbs add colour and act as natural pest control.
5. WATERING AND FEEDING
Herbs and small vegetables require consistent watering but hate waterlogged soil. Water in the morning and use organic liquid fertiliser every few weeks for healthy growth.
6. HARVESTING FOR CONTINUED GROWTH
Regular harvesting encourages plants to produce more. Snip leaves from the top to prevent herbs from becoming woody and leggy. Leafy greens can be harvested by cutting outer leaves first.
7. EXTENDING YOUR HARVEST
Grow microgreens like cress and mustard indoors for a year-round supply of nutritious leaves. In autumn, pot up herbs like basil to bring them inside before the frost hits.
