Tell us a bit about you and why you started CJ ’ s Kitchen . I sold my business , Gourmet Kitchen , after owning and running it for five years , and wanted to create something smaller and more manageable involving good food and hopefully , happy customers . I had a similar business when I lived in London , delivering freshly made food to busy families .
Where did the idea stem from ? The idea has always been in the back of my mind ; we also used to get lots of customers at GK buying our cooked dishes from the counter to take home for later , so I knew there was the potential to develop something there .
What sets CJ ’ s Kitchen apart from its competitors ? My food is cooked fresh , from scratch on the day of delivery , there are no preservatives used and each dish is packed full of flavour !
There are similar concepts in the market , but they offer their product frozen , perhaps so they can produce more volume on a bigger scale , but I am happy with small and fresh !
What are you most proud of ? I am proud of the number of happy customers we cultivated at Gourmet Kitchen , and of the teamwork that made it all possible ; I am delighted to say some of those customers have now discovered CJ ’ s Kitchen .
What would be your advice to women in business ? I think you have to be obsessively focussed on your vision and never take no for an answer . You have to push through and build a good team - they will make you laugh , work hard and have your back !
