MOTHER ’ SDAY

– LADIES THAT LUNCH – MOTHER ’ S DAY IN KENT

A CELEBRATION HEAVILY ENTWINED WITH THE BEAUTY AND NEW BEGINNINGS OF SPRING , THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE THAN THE GLORIOUS GARDEN OF ENGLAND IN WHICH TO CELEBRATE MOTHER ’ S DAY .
THE LANE
With spring bringing about new life in the form of blossoming flowers and baby animals , as well as longer days , warmer weather and bluer skies , Mother ’ s Day in Kent is destined to be a day perfect for making cherished memories with loved ones . Falling on Sunday 19 March , just one day before what is officially considered the first of spring , Mothering Sunday marks not only the start of a brighter , happy season full of promise and fresh starts , but also a time to let the mother figures in our lives know just how much we love and appreciate them .
Like many traditions here in Britain , this celebration began with religious purposes . Always held on the fourth Sunday of Lent , Mothering Sunday is thought to have begun sometime during the 16th century when it was considered important for people to return home and visit their ‘ mother church ’ or cathedral at least once a year - Lent being an ideal time at which to do this . This practice became synonymous with the time that domestic servants , usually young women , were given to travel home and visit their mothers and families , and thus Mothering Sunday became a cherished , steadfast part of British culture and tradition .
As these domestic servants and the children of bygone days walked along the country lanes , it is said they would pick wild flowers , such as violets , to take to church , or give to their mother as a sweet token of affection - the origins of today ’ s Mother ’ s Day bouquets , gifts , meals and more .
A day to not only celebrate together with the mother figures we have in our lives , but also a day to reflect on those that may no longer be with us , there are plenty of ways to make the day special here in Kent . A county full of fabulous foodie treasures , set in a plethora of stunning locations , you are sure to find something to suit you , no matter what your taste in food , venue or celebration style might be .
