Why were you chosen for The Corner House project ?
The client wanted a chemical-free swimming pool and we were the only team that provided the quality , professionalism and had the vision for the project to complement their property . The client wished for a ‘ living pool system ’, which is a pool with the look of a traditional pool but no nasty chlorine or salt .
What was the property ’ s pool development brief ?
Our brief was to build a pool on a challenging sloping garden , 12 metres by four metres , with a Baja shelf and it had to be heated to 30 degrees celsius . The client wanted us to mirror the house in our choice of design , materials and atmosphere . With this in mind , we used lots of sustainably sourced UK oak , a top-of-the-range solar cover and an air source heat pump ( which was the most economical on the market ).
How did you begin the design and install process for The Corner House ?
We started the design process with an invitation to visit one of our previous projects . This gave the client confidence in our abilities , gave us a starting point for our design and allowed us to immediately start the project with everyone being on the same page .
What was your design / install timeframe ?
We had a fixed deadline on this project as the client was keen to celebrate a big birthday around the new pool . From the initial visit to the previous project , the pool was started and finished in four months .
Were there any project pitfalls ?
Our only project pitfall was due to the underlying bedrock as while we were doing the initial excavations we had to go close to a boundary fence line . With the sedimentary rock , we took time , patience and diligence , which made for a very nervous day ! We managed to excavate the hole and shore it all up safely , but not without a little stress .
How did you find the balance between an excellent design-led pool and landscaped concept which also kept to budget ?
We are totally focused on delivering a storming design-led pool landscaped into its surroundings ; it ' s what we do best and we pride ourselves on always delivering on time and on budget .
What should people consider when looking for a pool and a company to install it ?
We believe people should go and visit one or even two previous jobs and look at the details . Is the liner crease free ? How smart is the decking ? Has it got mitred corners ? What is the water clarity like ? Does it fit its environment ? And , probably most important , can you get on with your builder ? It ' s vitally important that you understand one another .
