A little jaded , in the way that waiting until October for a holiday , long-haul travel with three kids , and a week ’ s non-stop themepark action tends to illicit , it was with open-mouthed awe that we descended into the cool , classic lobby of the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa . Perched , as its name suggests , right on the oceanfront at Singer Island , near to West Palm Beach , this luxe haven offers the ultimate getaway for all , wrapped up in a laid-back , palm-tree swaying barefoot luxury caress .
Designed to be ‘ ready when you are ’, rooms here are far removed from the traditional ‘ hotel / motel ’ vibe , offering instead ‘ residences ’ in the form of one or two-bedroomed condominiums , each inspired by and honouring the hotel ’ s coastal surroundings . Floor-to-ceiling windows pay homage to the vistas and allow the sunshine to brighten your retreat alongside a calming , coastal colour palette and a nod to the area ’ s nesting sea turtles .
Our own two-bedroom condo not only offered incredible views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Florida ’ s Intracoastal from both its large king-size bedroom with marble ensuite and walk in wardrobe , second two queen-bedded room with ensuite and the sweeping lounge area balcony , but also a fabulous full kitchen with fridge , stove , microwave , dishwasher and washer / dryer .
Elsewhere , this resort carefully achieves that perfect balance between activity and pamper .
There is the stunning white sand beach where you can partake in watersports or simply lay back on a sunbed under a thatched palm frond umbrella - which can be reserved daily for those who wish .
There are two outdoor pools : an sleek adultorientated infinity with accompanying jacuzzi and waiter service for frozen cocktails and potentially the best burger we had the pleasure to consume during our Florida stay courtesy of the Lagoon Cantina , and , much to our youngests ’ delight , the playful lagoon pool , complete with waterfall and flume .
For my smalls ( age five and eight ), their top experience pick ( and mine for very different reasons …!) was the absolutely fantastic kids ’ club . Open daily and prebookable , the beachside , air-conditioned hideaway offered everything from tie-dye t-shirt making to icecream sundaes , sand art , beach volleyball , and sea turtle hatching observations ( season dependent ), all led by a team of super friendly and experienced staff .
My own top pick ( aside from some blissful kids ’ club hours of peace ) was the hotel ’ s acclaimed SiSpa . As well as boasting its own outdoor pool and spa circuit , SiSpa also offers a tranquil menu of soothing massages , rejuvenating body treatments and cleansing facials by some of the most welcoming and enthusiastic spa therapists I ’ ve had the pleasure to meet .
Now , despite having that well-stocked condo kitchen , holidays for me ( and life in general ) is all about eating great food that I haven ’ t had to prepare , and lucky for us ( and you ) The Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa is also home to the 3800 Ocean Restaurant & Lounge .
Offering cosy indoor tables perfect for evening sunset dining as well as a beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the beach ( which is where we made full use of the hotel ’ s renowned breakfast buffet each morning ), the 3800 Ocean Restaurant proudly showcases a host of elevated American cuisine made using fresh , locally sourced ingredients .
Fittingly for its name and location , dishes here make full use of the plentiful fresh catch , offset with the citrus spiced hits notable in this southern location . The grilled corn and crab chowder offered a hearty
bowl of delicate fresh crab with depths of flavour from spicy chorizo , crunch from fried baby kale , with plentiful hunks of fresh rosemary focaccia providing the perfect-for-mopping-up-every-lastmorsel side . There was a delicious plantain-crusted red snapper with a sweet and sharp mango and honeydew relish , jasmine rice grits and a flavourpacking cilantro ( that ' s coriander to you and I ) oil . While for meat-lovers , the espresso-chilli rubbed New York strip is a must . The cut of preference along the East Coast , the steak was packed with flavour from its rippled marbled fat and rosemary and Cognac glaze , the sea salt and garlic roasted marble potatoes a well received alternative to the typical fries . Full , but not wishing to miss out on dessert ? Opt for the region ’ s classic , Key Lime tart , and be rewarded with toasted meringue , yuzu custard , blueberry gel and a sweet passion fruit curd ; or why not pick the S ' mores bread pudding ? A heaving dish of cookie butter croissant bread pudding with toasted vanilla marshmallow fluff , hot fudge , caramel , and house-made graham crackers - utterly indulgent and utterly worth the calories !
