Catslide Cottage , Sleeps 8 , Biddenden
Well-travelled types will love the well thought out funky surfer shack vibe - inspired by Long Island and Montauk in the USA . The interiors are handcrafted using rough cut materials and combine elements of timber and oxidised tin to complete the look . If that wasn ’ t enough , the state-of-the-art contemporary kitchen with stunning designer touches brings luxury within reach . The dramatic vaulted ceilings meanwhile ensure a light and airy feel … some might say more California than Camber .
Bacchus , Sleeps 20 , Near Canterbury
Biddenden specialises in all things wonky . Just outside Catslide Cottage the cobbled pavement is distinctly askew , and if you look up the wooden-beamed 16th-century cottages , former bakery and church houses are leaning one way or the other . So it ’ s no great surprise that Catslide Cottage , once a former Wealden Hall House , has the marks of time worn into its walls and ceilings throughout .
Catslide Cottage , named for its huge sliding roof which runs from the eaves bedrooms right down to the lowest point on the kitchen , has four bedrooms and an open lounge featuring an Inglenook fireplace . It ’ s a deceptively large yet cosy space and perfect for winter nights . It ’ s also well placed for summer days where the courtyard garden opens up directly from the lounge . Whatever time of year you visit , this Kentish gem will work its old fashioned magic on you .
Lark Rise , Sleeps 6 , Camber Sands
Lark Rise is a cool , architect-designed beach house at Camber Sands ( so just in Sussex … we know ) with superb entertaining spaces , a hot tub and designer ‘ hotel ’ touches . Here you ’ re so close to the beach that those far-reaching panoramas just topping the sandy dunes seem to start at its front door . There ’ s no better secluded spot to inspire a surf session or just a winter walk along the long wide beach with your four-legged friend for company .
Within easy reach of Canterbury ’ s historic attractions – as well as many of the modern ones too , shops , restaurants , cafes , great fudge shop ( we couldn ’ t resist ), Bacchus , as its name suggests , is dedicated to living your best life on holiday .
However , without having to leave this gorgeous house you can take a dip in the hot tub , have a set of tennis , dangle your muddy legs out of the treehouse , stroll around its own vines , fire up the barbeque or just cuddle up on the sofa in front of the fire with something hot – or cold – poured by a generous friend . There are games tables , huge cinema style TVs and a dining table to entertain your crowd around .
