HOW TO ... PANTRY
EVERYONE ASSOCIATES A DECLUTTER OR DEEP CLEAN WITH SPRING , AND WHILE IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE THE HOUSE SPARKLE BEFORE THE SUMMER MONTHS , AN AUTUMN CLEAN BEFORE THE WINTER MONTHS CAN BE JUST AS IMPORTANT ; PARTICULARLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE KITCHEN . NOTHING SAYS A TIDY MIND , LIKE A TIDY , ORGANISED PANTRY – THE LAST THING YOU WANT WHEN YOU ’ VE ACHIEVED YOUR DREAM LARDER IS TO TURN IT INTO ANOTHER SPACE TO STORE JUNK . SO JUST AT THE KIDDIES RETURN TO SCHOOL , THE NIGHTS DRAW IN , AND THE WINTER FAST APPROACHES , insideKENT ALONG WITH INDUSTRY EXPERTS HAVE PUT TOGETHER THE ULTIMATE RULE BOOK FOR KEEPING YOUR PANTRY SPICK AND SPAN .
CHOOSING YOUR PANTRY
No matter how big or small your kitchen , space can always come as a strain , stuff always seems to fill the cupboards leaving little room left for all those other bits like ingredients , herbs and spices . If you ’ re a storage-led lover and you ’ re screaming out for a little organisation , or you just want everything shut away behind closed doors , a pantry is most certainly the way forward . By no means new , larders have been around for centuries , starting out life as a stone-walled way of chilling meat , they have come a long way over the years since , transformed now into an allpurpose , food storage space ; a space that comes in an array of designs , shapes and sizes .
Collins Bespoke
Rachael Johnson , designer at Collins Bespoke , has included her quick top tips on getting your pantry just right :
• Keep all similar items together .
• Use glass jars so it ’ s easier to see how much you have left ; this also looks great .
• Use crates and baskets on the floor and make the most of the space .
• Use the pantry doors for storage such as bottle racks .
• Add shelving and go floor-to-ceiling to maximise the space - you could even use a ladder to access the items that are higher up .
“ When designing a larder , make sure it ’ s designed in a way that works for you and the items you need to fit into it . Shelves of different heights work well and a cold shelf is great for white goods too .”
