HOME + GARDEN
71 CLAREMONT ROAD CONT .
What challenges did you face ?
The site sits within the confines of the Tunbridge Wells Conservation Area and so the main challenge was ensuring the design and finish was sympathetic to the area , and in line with all policies set out by the Local Authority , whilst delivering a home which fitted the brief for our clients – something which we feel we achieved successfully .
How did you begin the development and design process for 71 Claremont Road ?
We always begin the journey with our clients with an initial meeting , either in person or over the phone , to understand the project they are undertaking , their ideas and goals and to talk through the process . We work with clients right through from initial stages , into planning and building regulations , with some requiring ongoing on site assistance to completion . We appreciate that no two projects are ever the same , and so our approach is always tailored exactly to each client ’ s needs . In the case of 71 Claremont Road , we met with our clients
Paul and Ella , who had a clear vision , and worked with them to help create a design and scheme that encompassed all they were hoping to achieve as closely as possible .
What was your design / build timeframe ?
The original anticipated timeframe was a twoyear build , with the project being completed in three years and three months . Permission was also granted for a studio building on site , which was utilised for living in during the course of the build as an alternative to living in a mobile home or off site . The advantages of this were twofold , in that not only could the clients be on site 24 / 7 and keep a close eye on progress , it also relieved time pressures associated with the need clients sometimes have when needing to move from an existing property or when living in temporary accommodation . This has remained as a studio post-completion , giving extra usable space in addition to the main property .
