How involved were the clients in this project ?
We work with a wide variety of clients , from those who are unsure of what it is they want or how they want to proceed , to others more like Paul and Ella who are very hands on and have a set idea of what they are looking to achieve and how . The reason for getting KDS involved in 71 Claremont Road was that they knew there would be constraints on what would be allowed by the Local Authority , and so needed guidance on ways of making their ideas work within these constraints , advice on where compromises may need to be made and someone with an eye for how to pull together all of their creative ideas .
With planning permission granted , we prepared technical drawings so the project was completely ready to take forward as a self-build , where Paul oversaw and undertook much of the exterior work . This included the idea for , and implementation of , the large triangle of glazing at the rear , which was the inspiration for setting up his company , Fablight , to cater for a gap in the market for those undertaking glazing projects of this type .
As a fashion designer , Ella naturally has a keen eye for interior design , and so she undertook and fully managed this side of the project , resulting in a home which has not only a unique , eye-catching design , but which has also been furnished to a very high standard with plenty of small touches which make it extra special .
