Family adventures to London are not limited to attractions of the exploring or eating kind , even the way you navigate across the capital can bring a whole new level of excitement .
As is par the course for a city with a winding river through its heart , it makes perfect sense to forget the tube , save little walking legs and travel in safety and style across the water courtesy of Uber Boat by Thames Clippers .
Part of the TfL range of transport that includes the Underground , Overground , trams , and buses , Uber Boats are the perfect way to navigate from key attractions such as the Tower of London , the London Eye and Big Ben , along the route that boasts 23 piers stretching from Putney in the West to Woolwich ( Royal Arsenal ) in the East .
From the wide-eyed excitement of waiting a few short minutes on the floating pontoon ready to ‘ tapin ’, it came as little surprise that the smallest Ready declared the Uber Boat journey from Tower to Westminster his ‘ bestest thing ’ we did during the entirety of our London Staycation !
Whilst the boat-mad small asked a million and one questions ranging from the name of every ( yes every !) other vessel we passed to which building we would see next , the rest of the family sat window-side taking in the views ( and the snacks procured from the very well-stocked onboard cafe ).
All boats and piers are wheelchair and pram accessible except for Cadogan , London Bridge City and Wandsworth Riverside Quarter piers . You can even bring your bike on board at no extra cost . With services running from early in the morning until late
at night 7 days a week , our top tip is to board just in time for sunset to really see the city in a new ( fading ) light .
Like the tube , the river is divided into zones : West , Central and East . Your ticket must be valid for all the zones you travel through . You can pre book tickets , pay on the day or , as we did , simply swipe a contactless or Oyster payment .
