© Ivy & Whyte
Mark and Sharmane of Ivy & Whyte Garden Design based in Hythe , are RHS award winning garden designers . From creating gardens that emulate the plains of Africa to creations of abundant green beauty , this pair are capable of doing anything you can dream up . Here are their top trends & tips for your outdoor space this summer :
1 . Jungle Style Planting
With restrictions on holiday destinations and people spending more time at home , trends have moved in planting to accommodate the tropical paradise style of plants including palms and lush large flowers . Our climate is leading towards a warmer future where plants not usually able to survive are now available to our market . An oasis can be created in a small space giving the illusion of further afield lands .
2 . Creating ‘ Rooms ’ in Gardens
It has become popular to extend out from the house into the garden , using the design principles of interior with rooms , this now is capable with the introduction of new materials lending themselves to screening and dividing areas .
3 . Texture & Pops of Colour
Evergreen planting has become increasingly popular , these plants offer year round privacy and generally are lower maintenance . Textures in green planting are diverse and there are now more plant varieties available in the UK market now . The green colours can be offset with pops of vibrant reds and oranges .
4 . Contrasting Planting
With the creation of the rooms and modern styles to gardens , planting with contrast is seen to have the best effect . Plants with a strong colour balance force their way into people ’ s vision , which can divert from stark hard landscaping .
5 . Rewilding gardens
We are all much more aware of our environment now and the positive impact we can have on our own space . One of the biggest elements we can bring into our outdoor space is wild areas . This can be the obvious wildflowers and plants which attract insects , or going the extra mile with inclusion of wild spaces , insect / mammal houses , untouched compost areas and grass left and not mowed .
