HOME + GARDEN
THE TENTERDEN APARTMENT CONT .
What are you most proud of ?
We wanted to ensure we restored this building to showcase its rich heritage , while also being usable for a modern-day homeowner . We did so by exposing the lath and plaster to show the true age of the property and the original techniques used to build it . It adds a real wow-factor to the space .
Another highlight was the glass bannister . After tradespeople telling us it wasn ’ t possible , we went above and beyond to bring our creation to life . It was an important design decision and a key element to the property . It required having the glass made , bolstering it to the banister and creating aluminum strips to place on top . The contemporary bannister brings the property into the modern age and creates a contrasting feature .
What are your hints and tips for those looking to embark on a property renovation project ?
Our best advice is to take your time to really consider the purpose of the space and how you want it to make you feel , this will help to shape the decorating scheme . For example , if it ’ s a living room that is used for the whole family to enjoy and relax in , you ’ ll want to consider cosy lighting , comfortable furniture , layered textures through cushions and rugs , and convenient placement of a coffee table or side tables .
Another piece of advice is to believe in your vision . If you truly believe in something , push yourself to create it and don ’ t feel discouraged by one tradesperson who might tell you it ’ s not possible or out of budget .
