Where do you start with interior styling for a home that you won ' t be living in ?
Getting the foundations right is key to achieving a look that feels considered and cohesive . Start with the flooring , it is the base of the room and anchors the entire scheme . It ’ s often an overlooked element or left until the last decision . Just like the wall coverings , the flooring will act as a backdrop for the rest of your new interior decoration scheme .
What were the common mistakes that you managed to avoid ?
Planning the layout is key in any room you ’ re designing , but especially the bathroom . No matter the size , a bathroom needs careful planning . It ’ s best to leave enough room around each element so that more than one person can move around the space should it be needed . The layout of the bathroom will also be dictated by the placement of each item depending on its requirements . Certain parts of the suite will need to be on the outside wall to match the pipework and the joists of the floorboard also need to be a consideration .
Did anything go wrong ?
Thankfully we didn ’ t come across too many hurdles . However we do encounter a few blown fuses due to loose wiring , which was easily solvable .
Did the property require any bespoke elements ?
When working with a property that is compact , or an unusual layout , bespoke can often work best . It means that every inch of the property is used to its full potential . For this project we struggled to find furniture that would fit the exact measurements , so we had the coffee table and dining table made . To source the materials , we ’ ll often browse through salvage yards , this is cost effective and also allows us to create something truly unique .
