HOME + GARDEN
THE TENTERDEN APARTMENT CONT .
How did you begin the redesign and refurbishment process for the Tenterden Apartment ?
We took this property back to its basics . Unfortunately , due to the age of the property and the damage that occurred over the years , it meant elements like the flooring needed to be taken up .
We were also working with a compact layout ; to maximise the space and improve the flow of the house , we changed the rooms around , making the bedroom the living room and vice versa .
What was your design / refurbishment timeframe ?
The entire project took six months and was completed by KAGU Interiors and a local builder . Working closely with trusted tradespeople allows for full control of the overall look and finish .
Were there any project pitfalls ?
It was evident that maintenance of the building hadn ’ t always been kept up , leading to unexpected bumps in the roads . It was clear that some repairs had been attempted , but sadly caused more damage than good . An example of this was the entrance area where the previous owners had tried to repair the flooring which left the floor uneven and a safety hazard .
How did you find the balance between an excellent designled refurb which also kept to budget ?
Finding a balance between the homeowner ’ s dream home and a realistic budget isn ’ t impossible , it just requires planning and a little compromising . We believe in persevering to find the perfect pieces for the space , this often requires us looking at multiple suppliers and designers to find the right piece . We are a firm believer that you shouldn ’ t have to sacrifice on quality or design , it just might require looking further afield .
