HOME + GARDEN
Pebble Gate Place CONT .
What was the property development objective ?
To provide an inclusive housing development of 56 homes with a broad mix of 1-4 bedroom homes , which would appeal to local people and buyers who were seeking a new home in a location which could provide the right amenities . The range of homes reflect the local housing need with first time buyer and family homes featuring highly . We have incorporated green spaces in the development and as it adjoins farmland it will give residents a sense of community and nature , all of which is important to our design ethos when looking at a new scheme .
We are ensuring through the design , a good wellmanaged scheme that encourages a sense of place and ownership amongst future residents .
How did you begin the development process for Pebble Gate Place ?
Pebble Gate Place has a range of one , two , three and four bedroom terraced , semi detached and detached homes reflecting the pattern of the existing housing in the area , and the starting point was to look at what types of homes were needed in this location .
First time buyer and family homes were determined as the size range and we then looked at the layout of the scheme , incorporating green spaces to create a sense of community . Careful consideration has been given to the detailed design and architectural articulation of the elevational treatment of individual houses , in order to reflect the architectural details in Stone Cross , to create a visually and practically pleasing aesthetic .
We selected a range of house styles and elevations from our portfolio of Westerhill Homes signature house types , adding elevations which reflect the local vernacular . The proposed materials have been chosen to ensure that the development responds sensitively to its local context , with the principal materials commonly found in the surrounding environment . Traditional materials are proposed that will be both durable and easily maintainable ; a mix of red and yellow stock bricks and plain tile hanging .
The design takes a sensitive approach to the existing physical characteristics of the site , whilst at the same time seeking to make the most efficient use of the available land . This includes retention of boundary landscaping and views through the development to the countryside beyond . The design and layout seek to create a high-quality design with an individual identity that will sit comfortably within the surrounding environment . The objective of retaining existing boundary planting and setting the buildings within this mature landscape framework has been achieved . The aim is to create high quality buildings , which are of their place and time , maximising natural light and being energy efficient and highly sustainable . Whilst our landscape proposal builds on enhancing the existing boundary features , the scheme also creates a sense of welcoming frontage via native hedges , landscaped public space , and managed front gardens .
