THE GREAT SPRING CLEAN CONT .
THE LIVING ROOM
Living rooms are often the spaces where things just accumulate . Every member of the household uses this room and after a while it can end up looking a little untidy . We are all guilty of collecting unnecessary bits and bobs and sometimes are just in need of a good sort out – decluttering and organising things into boxes or cupboards is a great place to start the living room clean and there are some fabulous ‘ Hinch ’ inspired tricks and tips out there to help you on your way .
1 . Sterilise the sofa
As soon as stains occur , it ’ s best to treat them right away , waiting too long can cause the stain to set into the fabric , and good luck with getting those out ! Also , it ’ s advisable to check the manufacturer label before going head first into a sofa deep clean , you want to avoid causing any lasting damage . Most sofa ’ s will come with a cleaning code on the tag indicating what can be used – water or solvents .
Begin the clean with a vacuum , hoovering up any hidden crumbs and dirt , then using baking soda , target those tough stains . Did you know baking soda is a great way to loosen stains and it also eliminates odours ? Next , move on to cleaning the couch with a recommended product , and always remember to do a patch test to start with . Whatever product you are using , always make sure to read the instructions . Once the cushions are dry , plump them up and place them back on the sofa in a different order to lessen the appearance of any wear and tear . And there you have it , a brand new couch .
2 . Squeaky clean your screen
Fingerprints on the TV are a real pain , and knowing what to use to clean screens safely is normally half the problem . A microfibre cloth is the best place to start to remove dust and smudges without potentially damaging anti-glare coatings . For stubborn stains , use a dampened cloth with a solution of mild soap and water . Remember not to use too much water , you don ’ t want to kill your TV .
3 . Revitalise your rugs
They may be stylish and have the ability to hide red wine and food stains , but our rugs are in fact the prime spot for millions of microorganisms including mites , dirt and dust ! And , with that in mind it ’ s
definitely time to attend to the rugs in the house ! Start by addressing whether or not you need specialist help , some more expensive rugs may need an expert touch . Alternatively , take your rug outside and give it a good shake , bash , and whack to free any lodged dirt – shaggy rugs in particular can harbour dirt in between the threads so you may need to use some force . Once the rug has been vacuumed , you can consider a deeper clean using a rug / carpet shampoo , generally these come in powder form and are super easy to use . Remember to always check if products are suitable , for wool rugs , it ’ s best to use a mild soapy water or specialist solution – always treat your rugs with care !
This is just the start of your spring clean , there ’ s also the spare bedrooms , the dining room and the garden , however don ’ t be overwhelmed , take your time and gradually work through it . Make a list and take pleasure in ticking off the chores , draw up a rota to spread the cleaning load , and most of all sit back and relax in your fresh surroundings – you ’ ve earned it !
