HOME + GARDEN
THE GREAT SPRING CLEAN CONT .
THE KITCHEN
At the heart of most homes , the kitchen deserves a little TLC . With them becoming multi-functional work spaces over the past 12 months , they ’ re bound to be in need of a thorough clean .
1 . Deep clean the fridge
Dust will settle on the roof of the fridge and it may be out of sight but it ’ s certainly not good for the allergy sufferers . Once that ’ s done , head inside to begin the cull ! We are all guilty of hoarding jars of mustards , sauces and pickles , so why not take this opportunity to get rid of anything out of date or unwanted and free up some much-needed space . Wipe up any obvious spills and leakages , remove the drawers and shelves one by one and wash them thoroughly in hot soapy water , finish with a good wipe down of the inside . For the ultimate clean , spray a little glass cleaner over the exterior and get polishing – before you know it you ’ ll have a ( practically ) brand new looking fridge . If you can , keep it up and give the fridge a once over every month to avoid a nasty build up of bad bacteria .
2 . Degrease the oven
Cleaning the oven is a bit of a dreaded task , but leaving it could cause unwanted grease and food build-ups that will in turn pay detriment to your oven ' s cooking abilities .
First , start by cleaning the exterior , get your hands on some decent degreaser or white vinegar ( it works wonders and everyone has it in the cupboard ), spray the solution on top of the hob , leave to work it ’ s magic for 30 mins and then simply wipe away ( don ’ t use this on stainless steel ). For pan supports , soak them in warm soapy water , before using a stiff brush to get rid of any excess dirt . With rubber gloves at the ready , head inside the oven removing any loose food and debris first . Spray with a good oven cleaner and leave for the required time – sometimes an overnight treatment works best . After , wipe away the grease with ease and if you find the shelves need more work , give them a soak or a little extra treatment . Alternatively , for a natural approach baking soda and water paste works wonders for the inside of ovens .
3 . Defluff the washing machine
When do we ever think to empty and clean the filter in the washing machine ? Well , it might just be due . Start with the drum and run a hot empty wash , you can always add a little white vinegar for a more thorough clean when necessary . Next , for the detergent drawer ensure to give it a thorough wipe down with soapy water , and use a toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies removing any soap or mould build ups . Don ’ t forget to give the door seal a wipe down – this is a haven for mould and mildew build ups !
Try to not leave it too long before cleaning the washing machine , washer hygiene is essential for its health and will keep it running better for longer .
