FRED & GINGER CONT .
What was the property development brief ?
The brief was to create a versatile living space focusing on large living areas for entertaining and relaxing with a growing family . The four en-suite bedrooms and large master suite are arranged over four floors with space between them giving a sense of privacy even when the house is at full residence . This beachside home needed to be able to accommodate different family generations and friends for weekends , summer holidays and Christmas .
Making the most of the uninterrupted sea views to the north and double-width south facing garden enabled us to create open-plan living spaces that flowed , and that were filled with light all day long . The opportunity to re-landscape the rear garden , with the addition of a beautiful first floor garden terraces to the front and rear , means there are many dining and entertaining spaces . The addition of special features such as garden kitchens on the lower ground floor ( both inside and out ), and a garden cabin with log burning stove and covered dining terrace means the rear garden can be used for entertaining all year round . The hot water beach shower to the front of the property is also very practical .
It was important to retain architectural features both inside and outside and restore some parts of the house that had been lost over time . The house had to feel ‘ as one ’ from the inside but would read as two separate houses from the outside to maintain the integrity of the terrace and stay in keeping with the local conservation area .
How did you begin the redevelopment process for the property ?
With all our projects we spend a great deal of time with the client in the early stages to grasp their design dreams , personal style and practicalities of how the property must function . The overall look is very much driven by the client and we work in collaboration , combining our skills and knowledge .
These early meetings are the beginning of the creative process – listening to needs , wants and expectations of our client . This is where a lot of the inspiration for the build happens , and is one of the most enjoyable parts of the process .
