The Wife of Bath
Restaurant, Room and Bar
Acquired and refurbished in December 2016
by Mark Sargeant, owner and operator of
multi-award-winning Restaurant Rocksalt in
Folkestone, this long established restaurant
with rooms in the historic village of Wye has
undergone significant refurbishment, breathing
new life into both the menus and décor.
Serving stunning à la carte and tasting
menus inspired by the fabulous flavours of
northern Spain and effortlessly married to
the wonderful local produce available to us
from the surrounding countryside and Kent
coastline, The Wife of Bath is once again a
true food destination. The restaurant boasts
six beautifully decorated and furnished guest
rooms and a unique bar area serving an array
of daily tapas dishes accompanied by artisan
wines, beers, sherry, vermouths and gins.
The dishes are adventurous in both their
influence and flavour, perfectly blending the
rustic with the refined. Smoked paprika, Ortiz
anchovies, Iberico chorizo, padron peppers
and saffron sit harmoniously alongside locally
sourced pork, poultry, game and south coast
fish. This ethos continues through into dessert
with quintessentially English reworkings of
classic Spanish puddings.

The recently added nine-course tasting menu,
of which there is a dedicated vegetarian
version, is the truest expression of this cooking
style and has already proved successful in
setting the standard at an even higher level. In
addition to the à la carte and tasting menus,
customers can also take advantage of the
weekly changing set lunch menu at £20.50 for
two courses, or £25 for three, plus ‘Galician Beef
Night’ on a Tuesday.
The six guest rooms, spread between the main
house and cottage to the rear of the premises,
offer the highest level of comfort and customer
experience complete with inventive and
unique touches to make each guests’ stay truly
memorable. All six rooms have access to a
pantry and honesty bar where guests can help
themselves to an array of local and artisan drinks
and snacks throughout their visit. In addition to
this, all guests receive a handwritten welcome
note from the duty manager upon check in and
a little gesture plate of welcome goodies.
The Wife of Bath is once again being spoken
about as one of Kent’s best and most exciting
destinations to stay and eat, so if you haven’t
yet had the chance to visit then now is the time.
