Set in the heart of Bearsted village, Fed on the Green quite literally gets its name from its location just a stone’ s throw from the village green. It’ s a rare treat to swap desks for dining tables, but when the opportunity arises and the destination is a true village hub- somewhere to meet, relax, enjoy great food and escape the inbox for an hour or two- you can be sure we’ ll be there. So, mid-heatwave and on a post-deadline morning, breakfasts were calling.

From the moment you step inside, there’ s an air of familiarity. Casual décor, soft lighting and the gentle hum of coffee machines working their magic for a well-earned cuppa set the tone. With the kind of growing appetite that only a hearty breakfast demands, team iK couldn’ t wait to tick Fed on the Green off their foodie bucket lists. Safe to say, it’ s one we’ d all return to in a heartbeat … anyone for remote working from Fed?
As we settled into our comfortable corner and listened to the clinking of cutlery around the room, we knew we were in for a treat. With menus in hand, it quickly turned into a taste-bud-tempting dilemma with one question on our minds: how could we possibly choose?
Naturally, I opted for a matcha latte to begin my morning- controversial, I know, but those earthy notes offer the perfect blend of comfort and slow-start indulgence. For the rest of the team, Fed on the Green’ s signature coffee using Notes beans was the perfect morning pick- a decision that elicited plenty of contented sounds from around the table.
Then the hard part- choosing what to have for breakfast and no, sharing was apparently not an option( although I’ m not complaining!). Going back to his roots, Adam opted for Turkish Eggs- poached eggs served in a generous bowl of garlic Greek yoghurt with sourdough toast for scooping, while Alex had his eye on Fed’ s signature Potato Rosti, served with streaky bacon and fried eggs. For the rest of us, the classic Three Cheese Toastie proved impossible to resist. Oozing with melted Cheddar, Red Leicester and mozzarella tucked between crisp sourdough, it delivered effortlessly on flavour, offered an Insta-worthy cheese pull and is one I’ d definitely order again.
And then, the words‘ buttermilk pancakes’ danced off the menu and onto the plates in front of us, topped with the day’ s special combination of bacon and maple syrup. Forks eagerly tugged at the fluffy stacks before being generously coated in syrup and doing exactly what we’ d hoped they would- delighting our taste buds from the very first bite.
What really sets Fed on the Green apart isn’ t simply its breakfast, brunch and lunch menus- although yes, I’ m already planning my return visit to work my way through them. It’ s the atmosphere. The kind where you’ re made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. No request is too much and no coffee cup stays empty for too long. The staff strike that balance of attentiveness without being intrusive, while the buzz of conversation and the aromas drifting from the kitchen reinforce the strong sense of community that runs seamlessly through the café. It’ s a home away from home for many locals and, after just one visit, it’ s easy to understand why.
