TSU Women’s Basketball Earned Second Consecutive Bid to WNIT
The Texas Southern
Lady Tigers basketball
team had another
successful season. The
Lady Tigers finished the
regular season with a
20-13 overall record, a
15-3 conference record
and a second place
Western Division finish.
During the SWAC
tournament, first year
head coach Johnetta
Hayes-Perry led her
team on a run to the
championship game
and a showdown with
rival Prairie View A&M.
TSU battled to the
end but fell 6 points
short of capturing
the title. Despite the
disappointment, Lady
Tiger fans took solace
in knowing that their
tournament runner-
up finish was the best
finish in recent school
history. Their fantastic
season earned the Lady
Tigers their second
consecutive invitation
to the Women’s
National Invitation
Tournament (WNIT).
The Lady Tigers faced
SMU in the first round
inside Moody Coliseum
in Dallas, TX. TSU held
their own, but came
up short in the closing
minutes, losing 84-72.
