CAMPUS Three Historical Markers Unveiled at Texas Southern Historical markers for former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, renowned artist and instructor John Biggers and the student painted murals of Hannah Hall were placed on the plaza in front of Sawyer Auditorium during the 2014 Founders Day celebration. Congresswoman Jordan graduated from Texas Southern in 1956. She earned her law degree from Boston Law School in 1959 and went on make her mark in history as a Texas Senator and United States Representative of the 18th Congressional District. Her marker will be permanently placed in front of the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs. John Biggers headed the newly formed TSU Art Department in 1949, where he inspired and molded thousands of talented art students. Biggers won numerous awards for his art throughout his career. In 1957, he began to require his art students to create murals on the walls of Hannah Hall. For his work and the artistic expressions of his students, the Texas Historical board honored both with markers.
