So Marian found herself in the position of being able to give away her prize- but to
whom? As the apartment was so close to her own house it made sense to offer it to
friends or family.
Her own children have children themselves and so would be restricted to school
holidays and therefore at the mercy of unscrupulous charter airlines hugely hiking
up air fares- something all parents with children in school must sympathise with. So
instead, she offered the week’s accommodation to her niece Judith and her husband,
Karlheinz. They were more than happy to accept. They had made one earlier visit
to Stoupa in 1990 but had been unable to make a return trip (largely for the same
reason of having to pay insane prices for their children to fly to Kalamata from Munich, Germany).
Inside the Mani went to visit them one evening during their week’s
stay at Tria and got an interesting take on how they saw the area had
changed over almost 25 years.
