La Vaqueira 2026 Promotes Cycling, Culture and Social Awareness in Asturias
The 2026 edition of La Vaqueira, a well-established cyclotourism event in northern Spain, has been officially presented in San Martín de Luiña, highlighting its continued focus on combining sport, culture and social impact.
Scheduled to take place on 28 June in Luarca, Asturias, the event offers two route options of 101 km and 118 km, designed to cater to a range of participants while maintaining its core ethos— encouraging cyclists to experience and connect with the surrounding landscape. Organisers emphasised quieter roads, scenic routes and an immersive experience that prioritises enjoyment over competition.
Beyond the ride itself, La Vaqueira positions itself as a full experience. Participants will have access to a range of services, including mechanical and medical support, personalised refreshment points, and a programme of activities beginning the day before the event. These include a community gathering in Ballota that blends gastronomy and local culture.
The event also places strong emphasis on cultural heritage, with contributions highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting the traditions of the“ vaqueiros de alzada,” a historic pastoral community in the region.
In addition, La Vaqueira continues its social commitment through collaboration with ASACO, raising awareness of ovarian cancer, with proceeds from its charity jersey supporting the cause.
The event aims to deliver a meaningful and memorable experience that extends beyond cycling, reinforcing both environmental appreciation and community engagement.
