Conor has something more powerful in mind for the Valentine’s cocktail of choice for men. ‘The Pirates Curse’ sounds more like an anti-Valentine to me but Conor assures me this is his personal favourite. The cocktail is served in a large skull glass “Pirates were hung if they were caught so the glass is quite appropriate” Conor explained. The cocktail itself is a dark blood red in colour and packs a bit of a punch. Guava juice, Lime juice, Navy Rum, Velvet Falernum, Pernod, Absinthe, Angostura Bitters, Wray Nephew rum and crushed ice - shaken and strained - combine to make a truly memorable drink – described as ‘scurvy cure’ in the menu!

Served in the skull glass with pineapple leaves placed protruding from the head like a Polynesian headband the cocktail has a floating lime husk on top holding one of the star ingredients, the Jamaican Wray Nephew rum (63% proof). The other star is the Falernum which is produced in the Caribbean. This liqueur tastes of almonds, cloves and ginger rolled into one and you can’t help feeling as if you are on the open seas with the pirate’s flag flying above you and a price on your head. It’s a knock out combination which is highly alcoholic.

Both drinks remind me of holidays – and that is one of the best things about cocktails. The mix of ingredients create wonderful fruity and intoxicating smells which bring back memories. Wiki-Tiki

-Tea-4-2 is more subtle in flavour and the elderflower element reminds me of picnics and summer. The Pirates Curse brings back memories of purple violet sweets and the memories keep coming thick and fast. These taste sensations work on all your senses not just the taste buds.

The two together create a romantic yet risky, theatrical and tasty side to Valentine’s perfect for a date but if you want to take control and be the one mixing the drinks whilst pretending you are Tom Cruise from the film ‘Cocktail’ why not look into taking one of Mu Mu’s cocktail master classes?
