Australian seniors
enjoy Australia’s
best courses
The 2014 Northern Territory Senior
Amateur Championship was
recently played at Darwin Golf Club
in conjunction with the Northern
Territory Amateur Open. While some
of Australia’s best young amateur
golfers were fighting out the overall
championship there were 50 seniors
competing for the NT Senior Amateur
Championship.
After 72 holes the 2014 NT senior
champion was Trevor Osborne from
the Darwin Golf Club. Osborne had
rounds of 81-73-80-79= 313 for an
eight stroke victory over Queensland
visitor Mike Peeck 79-80-84-78=321
and another visitor, Mick Asami from
Victoria 81-77-84-79=321. Defending
champion Tom Harold started well
with rounds of 76-79 but faded on the
final two days to eventually finish in
fourth place.
During July there will be two
national events – the Queensland
Senior Amateur at Carbrook Golf Club
and the 54 hole Gold Coast Senior
Championship at Royal Pines (first
and final rounds) and Palmer Robina
(middle 18 holes). Then there is a
wait until early September when the
two South Australian events (Grange
Senior Open and South Australian
Senior Amateur Championship) will
be played.
Following the South Australian
Senior Championship the six-man
team to represent Australia at the
2014 Asia Pacific Senior Amateur
Championship will be announced.
This year the championship will be
held in Hong Kong at the Discover Bay
Golf Club. With competition always
keen for this representative honour
performances in the final qualifying
events will be very important.
Currently Stefan Albinski (NSW)
remains on top of the 2014 Australian
Senior Ranking table with 102.16
points, Paul Maslen (NSW) is now
second (97.67 points) with Denis Dale
