SEVEN SANITY SOOTHERS: TIPS TO HELP YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER Occasionally on my blog I share tips & tricks that will help your wedding day go smoother & your photography look better. Here are a sampling of a few tips, but make sure you visit the blog for more! Go to aldersphotography.com/blog & click on the “tips for better photos” category. • Send your invitation suite to me to be photographed. Mail the entire suite including the save the date, outer envelope, invitation, etc. in a sturdy mailing envelope so nothing gets damaged. This also helps get your wedding published! • Talk to your catering manager about when vendor meals are served. I need to eat close to when you eat to best give you uninterrupted coverage. • Do not use a mic stand during your ceremony. Arrange to have your officient & readers use a wireless or wired mic. Passing the mic is easier & you don’t end up with a large metal object obstructing your ceremony photos. • Think hard about your reception lighting. Spend a little extra money to have uplighting & pin-lighting in your space. Use market lights to create a mood. The longer I can shoot without resorting to using a flash, the better your photos will be. See my preferred vendor list online for lighting companies. • Buy two suit shirts or rent two tux shirts. The groom will get hot & sweaty. Make sure he is refreshed & comfortable for the reception by allowing him a quick change during the day. • For better toasting photos sit close together. Shift your chairs if necessary. Designate a spot to your left or right for the toaster to stand so all 3 of you can be in the same photo. This also keeps them from wandering around during their speech. Make sure the area is well lit. • For better cake cutting/detail photos, put your cake table as far away from walls as possible. Use it as a centerpiece for the room or keep it at least 3 feet away from the wall. Decorate all the way around so the cutting can be shot from the back.
