n heart of the quiet village of Westport, Ontario resides The Cove Country Inn, which has been welcoming guests for over 25 years and is owned
by the Cowan family. The 15-room inn is nestled along the banks of the Westport Pond and Upper Rideau Lake, which is part of the Rideau Lake system. There are two buildings that make up the inn; one building on each side of the main street along with a full-service restaurant, lounge and patio. It is the meeting place in the village and a busy hub during the summer and fall seasons.
This year was a record-breaking for their wedding business and Seamus Cowan attributes that to a few things, “This year we did weddings from 40-120. We offer complete ceremony services to receptions. In the warmer weather we have a beautiful trellis by the water where couples can get married. We can help to arrange everything and we have a wedding planner on site.”
“The magical part is we are in a beautiful village surrounded by the Rideau Lakes and at the bottom of escarpment totally surrounded by water, but it feels like you are in the wilderness. Our setting sets us a part.”
The food is fine home-style cuisine – either sit-down service or buffet style. The choices are endless; prosciutto wrapped chicken with goat cheese, butternut squash ravioli and more. A house favorite is the maple glazed salmon and roast pork. Roast beef and turkey buffets are quite popular with all the trimmings.
"Each wedding can be tailored to what the couple wants." Seamus adds, “When I was married, I wasn't able to make too many changes. We prefer to offer lots of flexibility as we want our couples to be happy!"
Seamus himself has a degree in music, plays bass and performs for some of the weddings himself. “It’s tough to make a living as a musician. This way, I get the best of both worlds. I play here and make a living.”
“Our guests love to visit for the food and drink, and our entertainment is something that makes us different than most other places around.” The Cove Country Inn has offered live music on site since they opened. A nice place to say “I do” and dance the night away!
