Welcome to our fifth edition of Innovate

This edition of Innovate is dedicated to the memory of two people who have played an important role in the Institute of Teaching and Learning .
Tom McLeish was a student at Sevenoaks from 1973 to 1980 and frequently returned to the school to give talks , as well as generous guidance to us as the chair of our ITL Advisory Board . Tom had a very distinguished career as a theoretical physicist , a Fellow of the Royal Society and the first ever Professor of Natural Philosophy at York . He was also an inspiring and charismatic advocate of the relationships that exist between disciplines . His writing , as well as his numerous lectures and talks on the way science , art and religious faith can cast illuminating light on each other were utterly compelling , and a source of deep influence to so many people . A man of extraordinary intelligence , integrity and kindness – as well as boundless energy , enthusiasm and good humour , it feels an honour to have known him .
Dinos Aristidou worked with us in the development of our Middle School Diploma , with particular emphasis on strategies that develop reflective habits . His wisdom and imaginative insight have been very influential to the way the programme seeks to develop thoughtful , caring and mindful people , and we have learned so much from him . Dinos was the Executive Director of the International Schools Theatre Association , a freelance theatre director , writer and educator ; he also did a great deal of important and inspiring work with the IB , seeing theatre making as a driver of global learning and of empathy . Storytelling through theatre was for him a means of bringing people together in communities , united in an effort to better understand what it means to be human . Gentle , loving , passionate and modest , Dinos was a dear friend and we will miss him very much .
