TOWERS he World’ s Remarkable Transmission Structures
Part 1
Towers of power … over 20 years INMR has seen more than its share. During production of our 100 issues to date, we’ ve traveled to power lines in more than 60 countries – across searing deserts, through thick rain forests, traversing dense urban areas, crossing towering mountains and dotted along diverse landscapes. The number of transmission towers photographed and written about is in the hundreds.
The vast majority of these structures have been of lattice steel type construction, with some variants based on local engineering tradition and style. But others have stood out from the pack due to their high aesthetics, unusual functionality or truly unique design – in a few cases all three together.
So what better way to commemorate our centenary issue than to take readers on a‘ guided tour’ of what we consider some of the world’ s remarkable transmission structures.
