Another approach which some organizations are following now is doing away with job descriptions as they are redundant in this fast changing world where employees need to be flexible . These companies are hiring self motivated people who are given the freedom to define their own role and job size and switch roles according to the organizational needs .
Zappos , another company considered as one of the best places to work in , apart from having a formal hiring process consisting of interviews etc , also has informal events like lunches to check how the candidate can mingle with the company ’ s employees and culture . It doesn ’ t stop here , People who pass this stage are given an on boarding training at the end of which the candidates are offered $ 3000 to leave the company ! The people who reject the offer are the ones who truly have a long term association with the company . The
HR department of Google has a group called ‘ Bar Raisers ’ who have a veto power if they feel that the selected candidate is not up to standards . such familiarization of employees to maintain standards and save time .
Godrej has developed a Godrej Organization for Learning and Development which makes e- learning modules available to employees . These modules focus on soft skill training and out of the box thinking besides technical skills . It also helps in creating a leadership pipeline by certifying two employees in managerial positions of lateral thinking who teach in house . Many other companies follow a similar practice of identifying Subject Matter Experts who can train employees .
CAREER DEVELOPMENT Google has a unique project called 20 % project which allows employees to utilize 20 % of their work time on any pet project of their own . SAP has introduced a unique Career Success Center , which is a platform through which employees can get guidance on their career related questions . For SAP the aim of this program is to attract high quality talent , increase women in leadership positions and give employees all the means they need to grow their careers .
