And, we understand this when we get into the market and get our hands dirty. It starts with an idea, then the name of the company, then logo, then the presentation, then the business models then it is gone because you have an another idea by the next morning. How it started When I was at NMIMS, I had this passion and enthusiasm for doing business and creating my own venture. So, I used to sleep through the Philip Kotler lessons. I did not understand many of them. But, I loved learning about the startup ecosystem, interned with startups and attended many summits and networking sessions and explored the opportunities around. This gave me a deep knowledge of the ground realities. My rst job I am the founder of four start ups. However, the four of them were my imagination and not ground realities in NMIMS. My first job was with a startup. I got to learn things from scratch - how to handle people, present the finished product and sales, which is like the heart of any business. But when I founded Lume, the cycle reversed, it was first research, then the idea, then feasibility, then the business model and last, the name (which was decided in single day when it was time to get registered). So, in reality, the whole cycle had reversed. Your first job will give you an ample amount of learning which will be beneficial for understanding the market and how Businesses work. But the “Entrepreneurship Keeda” was there in my heart and the day arrived when it got me to resign. The jobless guy on a mission The research had now started. I went around many cities to explore the opportunities, sometimes as a business seeker, sometimes as a customer and sometimes even as a traveler. So, go out of your comfort zone, meet people and learn. The process of learning should never stop. Going back to pocket money from a xed salary This phase was the toughest. Once you have a job, you develop a habit of checking your bank account on the first of every month. It is hard to change because you 42
