Extravagant Generosity
June Mission Focus:
Light of Life Rescue Mission
Established in 1952, Light of Life Rescue
Mission is a Christian nonprofit organization
providing life-changing recovery programs,
and food and shelter for Pittsburgh’s poor and
homeless. The Mission is located on the North
Side of Pittsburgh and is open 24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
Light of Life provides over 100,000 meals annually,
including breakfast and dinner seven days a week. Staff
cooks and volunteers work together to prepare and
serve nutritious meals. Men, women and children from
the community are welcome to receive these meals,
in addition to the residents enrolled in our programs.
As a good neighbor, Light of Life also extends its meal
ministry in a variety of ways.
During the Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays,
we continue our long-standing tradition of not only
serving dinner on-site, but also delivering meals to local
senior care facilities. In addition to serving meals and
providing shelter, Light of Life also offers daily chapel
services for community guests who hunger for more
than a meal.
Men, women and children involved with our long-term
programs are provided case management and programs
designed to meet diverse needs, including recovery from
substance addiction, help for mental health issues, and
educational courses to prepare them for careers and
independent living. After a man or woman graduates, he
or she has the opportunity to be connected to a mentor
in the community and participate in after-care activities.
