state-of-the-art devices . Examples of such devices include mobile radiography , Direct Digital Radiography ( DDR ), Computed Tomography ( CT ) scanner , Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI ), Ultrasound , Angiography , Fluoroscopy , Bone Densitometry , reporting , digitalising and scanning / printing equipment for appropriate services , as summarised in Figure 1 . However , the key success factors underlying this department ’ s operations rely on the effective organisation of device delivery and installation , which is co-supervised by Healthcare Engineers through the evaluation of numerous legitimate requirements .
LEVERAGING LEGISLATION IN MEDICAL DEVICE PROCUREMENT AND PLACEMENT FOR THE RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The MOH is committed to ensuring that stateof-the-art devices are always at their best performance , either through good maintenance or the acquisition of new installations ( replacement or additional modalities ). The questions that may arise are , “ Is the procurement and placement of high-end medical devices just a straightforward process ?” “ Who are the hidden figures behind this entire process ?” “ Are medical officers or other clinical support professions alone in the procurement and installation process ?”
In fact , many figures are involved in this journey — radiologists , engineers , physicists , medical officers , administrators , etc . However , in most cases , the overall delivery of high-end devices is subject to a “ Customised Healthcare Engineering Policy ” by the MOH Engineering Division , the Division appointed as the co-implementor and technical advisor . The final acceptance and application by the end-user will then take place accordingly .
To customise this policy , the identified principles of the Act , Regulations , Circulars , Standards , and Guidelines hierarchy are
