URBAN AGRISCHOOL : GREENHOUSE MODULE
The first programme under the Urban Agrischool initiative was held on March 9 and 10 , 2019 in SK Sedenak , Johor . About 30 students from standards five and six , including those from the school ’ s Agriculture Club , participated in the programme . The programme received support from UPM , SK Sedenak and the Parent Teacher Association , Kulim ( M ) Berhad , Agri Space Tech Sdn Bhd , and the Malaysian Society of Agricultural Engineers – Student Chapters ( MSAE-SC ).
Day 1 The programme started with a short survey form given to the students to gauge their current knowledge of agricultural technology including greenhouse technology . It was observed that most of the students lacked knowledge of agricultural technology .
Following the survey , a short briefing was given on agricultural basics leading to the introduction of greenhouses without showing any images . The first student centred learning activity was designed to capture the students ’ imagination and creativity . Students were given the chance to draw their depiction of a greenhouse using colour pencils . Facilitators and volunteers also listened to the students excitedly sharing their ideas . Next , another short briefing was given by a facilitator where pictures of greenhouses around the world were shown and explained to the students . Subsequently , the students were divided into groups and were asked to redraw their ideas of a greenhouse after seeing and understanding the actual concept of an agricultural greenhouse .
