Upon graduation, the ET may register as GE in the field of aeronautical engineering. This option is similar to existing procedures at BEM for existing ET in other engineering fields. Figure 2 above depicts the roles of ETs and Engineers. CAAM Cat C Type Rated (TR) AML Holders Registered as Graduate Engineer To fulfil this function, the following three pathways are available to comply with Act 138 (10)(2) [2] whereby a graduate engineer will be entitled on application to be registered as a Professional Engineer. A. Route No.1 – BEM Professional Assessment Examination (PAE) I. The candidate has three years practical experience as specified in regulation 22(1) which shall include the following: a. at least two years of general training that provides a sound basis for professional development; and b. at least one year of professional career development and training providing a wide exposure to the various managerial and technical expertise in engineering practice where; c. at least one year of the above training must be obtained in Malaysia under the supervision of a P.Eng in the same branch of engineering as that practised by the GE. P.Eng in other related branches of engineering may be accepted with the prior approval of the Board II. has passed a PAE conducted by the Board; B. Route No.2 - Corporate Member of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) I. Is a corporate member of the IEM. II. Has complied with the requirements as determined by the Board as follows: a. has obtained three years practical experience as specified in Regulation (22)(1) [16] which shall include the following: i. at least two years of general training that provides a sound basis for professional development; and ii. at least one year of professional career development and training providing wide exposure to the various managerial and technical expertise in engineering practice where; iii. at least one year of the above training must be obtained in Malaysia under the supervision of a Professional Engineer 63
