( CCM ). There are four topics in the CCM , which are illustrated in Figure 2 . They are : i . Human Anatomy and Physiology ii . Healthcare for Biomedical Engineer iii . Safety iv . Regulatory
Human Anatomy And Physiology A BTP needs to understand basic human anatomy and physiology . Only with this knowledge , can a BTP understand the principles of medical equipment better . They will also then know all the risks involved . Most of the BTPs who graduated in Biomedical Engineering would have covered similar modules in their study . These BTPs are exempted from completing the CCM module as long as the module in the university / college has covered the following topics :
● The Body as a Whole
● Support and Movement
● Communication , Control and Integration
● Transportation and Defence
● Respiration , Nutrition and Excretion
● Reproduction and Development
Healthcare For Biomedical Engineer A BTP who is working in a healthcare premise is required to know the basic services that are offered at the premise and is expected to know the functions and services of the main departments in the premise , including :
● Hospital Functions
● Medical Specialist and Subspecialist
● Clinical Support
● Surgical and Emergency
● Obstetrics and Gynaecology
● Paediatrics
● Pharmacy
● Oral Healthcare
This module will help the BTP understand the criticality of medical equipment in the service and improve communication with the operator .
Safety In any job , safety is the most important element . There is a motto in Occupational and Safety Health that goes “ No safety , No progress ”. In this module , a BTP should know about safety in the fields of :
● Electrical Safety Test
● Safety in Healthcare
● Safety for Equipment
● Introduction Risk Management in Medical Device ISO 14971
This module will help the BTP in safety management especially when handling medical equipment .
Regulatory Several regulations govern the use of medical devices in Malaysia . Each of them covers regulations in their respective fields . They are :
