Marked increase in ridership for urban rail services in the Klang Valley recording two-digit growth of 11 % from 2018 to 2019 .
My50 Unlimited Pass
To encourage the use of PT , the My50 and My100 passes were introduced in January 2019 for unlimited travel for Prasarana ’ s stage buses , and both stage buses and rail , respectively . It was reduced to RM30 per month during COVID-19 constraints , and was increased to RM50 beginning January 2022 . We have seen a marked increase in ridership for urban rail services in the Klang Valley recording two-digit growth of 11 % from 2018 to 2019 .
COVID-19 Pandemic
In 2020 , the COVID-19 pandemic restricted travel in general . Reduced wages and lack of income due to loss of jobs also led to reduced movement , including public transport . Perceived as posing a higher risk of virus infection , existing patronage in PT was reduced by more than half although periodic disinfection exercises were diligently carried out by the PT operators .
Lessons Learnt
● In the Klang Valley , urban sprawl is the most debilitating factor that has negatively affected the operations and coverage of PT . It led to the hike in private transportation usage and to the reduced sustainability of PT operations needed to cover the increasingly large populated areas .
● Higher income levels led to an increase in demand for higher quality of life ( QoL ). Although urban rail services have provided
