AGEING PLANT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ( APMS ) FRAMEWORK
A framework for managing ageing plants in Malaysia , known as APMS is proposed . The APMS takes into consideration the requirements of international standards on asset integrity ( ISO55000 ) and common practice adopted worldwide including Control of Major Accident Hazard ( COMAH ), UK , and Process Safety Management ( PSM ), US , and is also in accordance with existing legislations in Malaysia . Serving as a starting point towards developing a more comprehensive mechanism to manage ageing plant in Malaysia , the proposed APMS is used as the basis for the development of measurement tools and data analysis methodologies .
CONCLUSION
Asset integrity management is the key to ensure the continued operation of a plant as well as to minimise the risk which can contribute to major accidents . Furthermore , it is important to ensure the safety and health of employees and to prevent asset loss while protecting the environment .
Findings from previous studies show that the management of more than half of the installations visited were not aware of the problems of plant ageing in their factories . Without the awareness and commitment of management , the integrity monitoring programme cannot be implemented properly ; identification of assets with impaired integrity cannot be made and they cannot be monitored continuously .
