Society
The definition of a smart society is complex to unravel and has a variety of perspectives . However , smart societies can be summarised as information societies able to utilise the benefits of artificial intelligence ( AI ), big data and Internet of things ( IoT ). Smart cities comprise all-new infrastructures that enable cuttingedge technology and big data , and also assist inhabitants in overcoming challenges and obstacles in the city environment . Building a vision for smart cities is indirectly the same as shaping society . Smart societies are important components of smart cities . Furthermore , smart societies should be characterised by a smart city framework , starting from the drafting of the vision .
The challenge of developing smart cities begins with establishing a common vision for society . To formulate this vision , the geographical and sociological characteristics of communities should be comprehended and incorporated . Equally essential are obtaining a balanced view of societies and establishing concrete objectives linking smart cities to sustainable development . The reason is that the success of smart city projects and applications depends on citizen acceptance , as well as supportive decisionmaking and behavioural change . An important realisation is that citizens and residents are the focal points of smart city solutions . They will be the final consumers , and solutions must offer apparent benefits to their daily life .
The desire of Governments and policy makers to offer a better environment for their citizens is the foundation of smart city designs . Thus , they should focus on improving the living conditions of their populations . To date , all advanced technologies serve only as a means to complete the vision . Given that society is the ultimate recipient of all smart city processes , Japan has taken a step forward by introducing the Society 5.0 paradigm since 2016 . Society 5.0 ( also known as super smart society ) incorporates two types of relationships : ( 1 ) relationship between technology and ( 2 ) technology-mediated relationship between individuals and society . Four important components of Society 5.0 are shown in Figure 3 . This new paradigm will be another challenge to realise the vision of a smart city .
Conclusion
The design , vision and concept of smart cities must improve communities ’ quality of life consistent with future city needs . Malaysia is a country that has kept up with the times in terms of development . Klang Valley , Malacca , Kota Kinabalu , Kuching , Iskandar Malaysia , Kulim and Penang are amongst the cities chosen to be involved in deep dive
