The key roles and responsibilities of MAMPAN are based on the four operating models developed as indicated in Figure 21 ; namely advisory services and R & D , capacity building , assessment and certification , as well as awareness and promotion programmes . The role of MAMPAN in assessment and certification is to provide appropriate training
related to the Malaysian Carbon Reduction & Environmental Sustainability Rating Tool ( MyCREST ) and the Sustainable Infrastructure Rating Tool which is currently being developed . Besides training , MAMPAN is also responsible for providing consultancy services and verification processes on sustainable construction as part of this operating model ’ s obligations . The advisory services and R & D meanwhile act as a medium to encourage collaborative sustainable construction research with local and global partners . The operating model on capacity building focuses on developing guidelines , which are able to support full adoption of sustainable practices in the construction industry ’ s value chain .
The outcomes of these operating models can be quantified through the achievement of MAMPAN ’ s goals that have been divided into three stages , as shown in Figure 22 . The short-term goal of MAMPAN is to make sure that our country is in the position to become a regional leader in sustainable construction by 2017 . This goal can be achieved by increasing MyCREST ’ s adoption in the construction industry as well as the establishment of a sustainable infrastructure rating tool for Malaysia .
