Areas for Digitalisation
More than 80 % of the respondents feel that collaborative tools are a must / should have . The pandemic has made collaborative tools a must have for all industries .
Next are digital design tools and instruments ( 75 %) followed by project delivery and control tools ( 66 %). In the group discussion , the emphasis on design tools appears to veer towards design software rather than the design tools and instruments put forth in the survey forms .
Surprisingly only 55 % feel that BIM is a must / should have digitalisation tool .
Investing in Digitalisation
Very few are willing to invest more than RM 50,000 over the next two years into digitalisation .
More are willing to spend on design tools and instruments ( 72 %) followed by BIM ( 60 %) and collaborative working ( 57 %).
Government Initiatives
The main areas where the Government can chip in is to help is the provision of subsidy for software and hardware , training subsidies , tax rebate and financial assistance .
Productivity Increases
Surprisingly 40 % of the respondents do not see any productivity increases arising from the use of BIM . In fact , 46 % of the respondents indicated that there are no cost savings due to the use of BIM .
More than 80 % of the respondents agree that the areas of digital design tools and collaborative working arrangement brings about the most productivity gains . About 70 % of these respondents also agree that these two areas have the most opportunity for cost savings .
WAY FORWARD
The majority of the respondents have yet to come up with any strategies to digitalise . In fact only 8.4 % of the respondents have some SOP with regards to implementing digitalisation in their company .
