14 November - 20 November 2013 Road to the South... rugged and beautiful INFORMANTÉ |3 Diamond Festival 2013 bigger and better “Celebrating our Diamonds, Our People, Our Environment” THE third Oranjemund Diamond Festival, bigger and better than in previous years, is to take place from the 28th to the 30th of this month. However, the Miss Diamond Pageant will already be held on 23 November and the guest of honour will be Miss Namibia 2013, Paulina Malulu. Miss Diamond 2013 is a community event and the winner will serve as a role model for young women. She will engage young women in her community on social issues, particularly the increasing cases of baby dumping. Miss Diamond 2013 will also use her title to mobilise resources by soliciting sponsorships and hosting fundraisers to reach out to neighbouring vulnerable areas in the //Kharas Region. This annual event started in 2011 under the banner of the now defunct Oranjemund Town Management Company which had to prepare the town for proclamation. The following year the event was held under the auspices of the newly-elected Town Council and people started to have a bigger say in activities for the festival. A committee was set up under the chairman- ship of Francis Milomo, with specific objectives in mind. “These include the marketing of Oranjemund, celebrating the diversity at the town and unleashing of the business potential at the town by inviting other companies to participate in the event. The business potential at Oranjemund has not been fully developed yet,” said Milomo. He described the town as a jewel, citing as reasons for it, the close proximity to South Africa as the biggest business partner of Namibia, the Orange River to the South of the town, the Atlantic Ocean in the West and the Namib Desert bordering the town in the South. “Therefore, Oranjemund is situated ideally to host the Diamond Festival and this year for the first time cut and polished diamonds will also be for sale at the event,” Milomo announced. The theme of this year’s event is “Celebrating our Diamonds, Our People, Our Environment” and will be filled with music and business and food stalls. The Town Council will host a gala dinner on 28 November, while companies will start exhibiting their products and services the next day. “Our annual Christmas lights will also be switched on that evening and the Southern Youth Choir will entertain the people with carols,” said Milomo. The activities on 30 November will start with a business breakfast hosted by the local NCCI and guest speaker will be Mr David Nuyoma, CEO of the GIPF, followed by a street procession, while exhibitio ??????????????Q??)????????????????????????????????A,?)???M???????????? ????????????1?????+?q]???????????????????????????????????)??????????????????????????????????????)????????????????????????????????????)???????????????????????????????????)??????95??9???????5Q ?????(?@)???????%???????????????????????????)??????????????????????????????????????)Y?????????????????????????? ????????9??A???????95??????????)????????????????????????????????)????????????M5?????????????????????)???????)Q???????????????????????????????????)????????=????????????????????????????)?????????????????????????????????????)?????????????????????()?????5?????) ?????????????????????????()???????????????()5???9??????)????A,??))?????????()????()M??????????=????????????????????? ?????????????????)?????? ?????A?????()5???9??????)A??????5????()????????)M???????????) ???????()A,((????5??????????A??????????????()5??????????A???????????I??? ????????9??????)=????????Q??? ???????????????I??? ?????????9??????)M???????????????? ???????????????????????9??????) ?????? ??????????9 $???????9??????)%5=9?MQ%Y0??????A???M????????????M???)???????????9??????????)1?????????????5???????????????????????????()Q?????????????????????????????)???????????????????=????????????????????((0
