Elderly fights for home

A Windhoek pensioner and resident of
Claudius Kandovazu
Street in the Donkerhoek residential area,
Maria Negumbo, has
vowed to fight tooth
and nail to keep her
late husband's house,
despite attempts by
her stepdaughter Elina Tjivikua to evict
her.
Sixty-year-old
Negumbo’s problems
began after the passing
of her late husband Sakaria Negumbo in 2009,
to whom she had been
married since 1976.
In 2010, Negumbo
attempted to have the
house transferred in her
name, but this continues
to be problematic, after
a well-known Windhoek lawyer she had
approached to facilitate
the transfer, allegedly
worked in cahoots with
Tjivikua in delaying the
process.
The lawyer (known to
Informanté) reportedly
advised her to sell the
house, in order for Tjivikua and her brother to
inherit from their father.
In addition, the lawyer
allegedly also billed
Negumbo N$85 000 in
consultation fees.
Left with no option,
Negumbo said she then
approached State House
where she was advised
to seek the assistance
of another legal re-
presentative, who only
requested that she pays
him N$1 000 in consultation fees.
To her dismay, she
claims Tjivikua also got
to the new lawyer, who
also ended up advising
her to sell the house and
